On the last day of the first week, I was expecting that people would maybe be wandering home immediately after shooting finished, since they were shooting down at the Forks Road Pottery, and it's close to the QEW and

all. Wouldn't people just want to get home? Apparently my skills have cursed me in a way, because I was expecting maybe half the normal amount of people, but quite a few decided to stay BECAUSE I was making dinner. So what can you do to throw together a last minute meal? I love roasting because once everything is in the oven, your hands are free again. I had already scouted out a local butcher (Vic's Meats of Grimsby) that offered a plain pork sausage that didn't have filler in it (usually bread of some type, which causes problems for the people who can't eat gluten). I also had a lot of root veggies, so I turned the oven on and got a couple trays ready. I chopped up carrots and butternut squash, which I doused with oil, garlic, salt, cumin, and a little drizzle of some orange juice concentrate. This is a great 'cheater' ingredient, a little goes a long way to delivering intense orange flavour without me

ssing around with oranges, nice when you're in a rush. In the second tray, I threw in some potatoes that I hadn't yet dealt with, smaller ones that we had received from 4 Life Natural Foods in Kensington earlier that week. I didn't even realize until I had started peeling them that some of the potatoes were those wonderful blue-fleshed ones! I had a nice mix of yellow, white and blue potatoes that looked exactly like a tray of easter eggs. I threw in some slivered onions and kept it simple with olive oil, salt and a sprinkle of oregano. Once those were done, the sausages were roasted and suddenly I was done. And I wasn't too upset to have some leftovers of this after everyone went home for the first break...You had better believe I wasn't going to be cooking on the few days off that I had.
